Aberystwyth Old Students’ Association representatives attended the annual Founder’s Day celebrations on 15th October 2021, celebrating 149 years of Aberystwyth University.
Like many others they enjoyed the fascinating and engaging webinar "From the College by the sea to the College on the hill and a few stops along the way” by Elgan Davies on the evening of 14th October. It was good to see the mention of the original and ongoing support from OSA for the development of the University as part of this piece.
The annual Founders Day walk along the prom took place on the morning of 15th October, followed by breakfast and a talk by the Rt Hon Liz Saville Roberts MP and leader of Plaid Cymru. Liz spoke of her time in Aberystwyth whist learning Celtic languages and studying her degree through the medium of Welsh, of her surprise at the number of MPs at Westminster who are also Alumni and drew some interesting similarities between the iconic buildings the Old College and the palace of Westminster.
It was a delight to be able to share the age-old tradition with the rest of the procession of kicking the bar at the north end of the Prom! We look forward to kicking the bar again next year in the University's 150th year.
