Aberystwyth University School of Art Graduate and Postgraduate Exhibition 2020 is now online!
On March 23 2020, the university along with much of the country went into full lockdown in order to contain the spread of Covid-19 virus. Consequently, the School of Art was unable to stage its much-anticipated annual degree shows.
For two weeks, the School of Art Graduate and Postgraduate Exhibitions were to have featured a wide variety of artworks by 53 undergraduate and 11 postgraduate students.
It is disappointing that students, staff and visitors were denied the thrill of experiencing the 2020 exhibitions in our magnificent Grade II*-listed Edward Davies Building. For our students, the degree show is a rite of passage, a conclusion to an extended period of study and hard work, and a conclusion to their time together. This year we all missed the excitement of the private view that has traditionally been the high point of the academic calendar.
In its place, the School of Art is pleased to present its first ever online graduate and postgraduate exhibition. Although only a selection of the students’ work is shown on the website, work in portfolios, studies, sketchbooks, visual diaries and preparatory materials were also assessed.
While the undergraduate exhibition includes works from only one module in their final year, it represents the highpoint of their achievement over three years of study.
